The positive mental and physical effects of adult dance classes

Courtney Haddock - one of our newest team members - is here to tell us about something close to her heart for this edition of the Writer’s Corner. For Courtney, there’s no better way to unwind than through the magic of dance. And she’s got a convincing argument for why you should try it too...

Dancing is something that everyone can do, whether it’s good, skilled, bad, or dad – who is really there to judge you or tell you what’s wrong? It’s not a skill that you have to be born with or start learning at a young age.

Adult dance classes have been sweeping the fitness craze for some time now. Any form of exercise is essential to your emotional and physical health, and being able to express your feelings and passions with music that’s equal to your mood/day can be a freeing and fun new outlet.

Reduce stress levels

Dance can aid in breathing, heart health, and joint pain, reduce stiffness and toughen up muscles and bones. The stretching and movement of your neck and back will ease any tension that you bundle up from work/family stress and ultimately make you feel more relaxed and refreshed. This is a way that I personally use to relieve stress, whether it’s through contemporary style, stretching before every class, or even losing my whole self in hip-hop (a personal favourite).

Improve your memory

Dance is helpful for remembering things through its repetitive learning process. Absorbing and repeating choreography is an impressive and useful way to enhance your memory, aiding in a healthy mentality, no matter how old you are. Being taught any new skill or choreography is always going to be a challenge, but with dance, you will soon be a master at learning those moves and your muscle memory will strengthen.

Increase your self-confidence

Dance is a huge factor for me when it comes to confidence. Dancing can help you value your body in the way it moves, whether that’s graciously or sensually. You’ll be able to appreciate parts of yourself and your body that you never have before! My all-time favourite style to learn is commercial in high heels!

Heels classes are a popular new trend in the dance class world, and they focus on empowering women, men, or whoever wants to join and embrace their sexuality. I’ve personally never been to a class which is more inclusive, fun, and loving.

The adult dance class community is a perfect place to make friends, relieve stress, build confidence, and enjoy yourself. Positivity and support shine throughout the whole environment. With all of these pros, it’s crazy to realise that it also benefits your immune system as well as your emotional health!

Dance can be a competitive sport, for many a lifestyle, and most importantly, creative outlet. For me, it’s a way that I can express a sassy, funky, and street side of myself that I may not feel during my daily work and family life. I feel like my true self when I’m there, and there’s no better feeling.

Courtney isn’t just a master of dance - she’s a master of the written word too! She is just one of our many talented writers who has helped multiple clients reach their full content writing potential. If this is something we can do for you, feel free to get in touch.
